GMG 2006

Giornate Mondiali Guzzi, Mandello del Lario. I am back from Italy. Around 3300 km driven, no major problems. Will be posting some pics later, I have about 250 of them..

Now I know why motorcycles are made. They are made to be ridden long distances, not riding around the neighbourhood. I hate driving in traffic, in the city, etc.

The riding position of a Ducati 996 is great, I had no problems at all. Ok, the wind made some problems, I was wearing my goretex (good thing, mind you), so the outfit wasn’t all that tight. Also some windnoise was generated to my helmet, but I can live with that.

Touring

Who said Ducati is not a touring motorcycle?

I know its ugly, but it works. If you know of a better way to take a 2 week trip to Italy with a superbike, let me know. No, renting or transporting by train/plane is _not_ an option. I said RIDE to Italy.. If your ass/wrists can’t handle it, buy a *******.

Note the taped up tail. The tankbag is not even in it’s full length yet, although that makes riding almost impossible. It can be extended a bit, mainly with clothes or something else soft, so that you can lean/lay over it.

By the way, the gear includes a tent and a sleeping bag with an inflatable mattress.
This is my first major trip out of the country so I probably have waaay too much stuff with me, but it’s good to know how much I can carry.
The only thing that worries me now is the weight of the tailbag. It’s so high up, it’ll probably take a few km’s to get used to. Also, getting on the bike will be a pain..

(the tail bag is not yet attached to the bike, it just sits there for a photoshoot)

See you all in two weeks. :-D
